Curious about Mormonism? Chat Online with an LDS Missionary

Are you curious about Mormonism, but not currently comfortable with the idea of a face-to-face discussion with Mormon missionaries? Would you like to be able to have a real-time conversation about Mormonism and Mormon beliefs with LDS missionaries while maintaining some anonymity and personal space?

Then the online chat feature at mormon.org may be just the thing for you. Here you can have a real-time, no-obligation discussion via your computer about Mormonism with an LDS missionary (there are missionaries called just with this purpose as their full-time service work). Ask questions about Mormonism in the privacy and comfort of your home, or in a hotel room while on a trip, or on your handheld device while riding the bus. Chat at a time that works for you using a medium that allows you flexibility, privacy, and even a written record so you can mull over what you have discussed.

If Facebook is more your style, you can connect with Mormon missionaries there as well. For example, I met Elder Colton Baird and Elder Bryan Sabin this week (in person) and they are fantastic. (“Elder” is a title that male missionaries have during the time they are serving. Women go by “Sister.”)

Online missionaries will respond to questions you have in a medium that you feel comfortable with — chat, Facebook, blogs (e.g., see Elder Baird’s blog and Elder Sabin’s blog).

If video or audio conversations are your preference, they also use Skype.

Let’s say after having a conversation with the missionaries that you would like to connect with a Church member or two online to find out more about Mormon life. The missionaries could help you via the mormon.org profiles, which can be sorted/searched by such things as age, ethnicity, location, former religion, or search terms of your choice (like hobbies or educational/career focus).

Hi Mormon ladies,
I’m wondering about Emma Smith. Why didn’t she follow Brigham Young to Utah with the multitude of Mormons who came? and do you know what happened to Joseph Smith’s Mom? my head is reeling and it all started last sunday in sunday school class when the teacher mentioned something about the Reorganized church called the Community Of Christ and how they own the Kirtland temple.
