Today, we would like to wish you a Merry Christmas, and invite you to follow this link to view a beautiful video in some quiet moments today. It is the new video for Shawna Edwards’ song “Do You Have Room?” and conveys a beautiful and simple message.

I have listened to this song many times since it was first shared here earlier this month, and I was prompted to make more time for the Savior during my days. Quiet time is rare in our house, with 3 very lively children (5 years old, 3 years and 18 months). Many mornings this month, I set my alarm for what felt like the middle of the night so I could have quiet time to read the scriptures, pray sincerely, and ponder different gospel concepts. Some mornings I was too tired from sleepless nights with restless children, and I’d turn off the alarm clock and instead wake with the first noises from a child. During those harried days, my to-do lists often ran long and were rarely finished, and when I would take a moment to decide which task to tackle next, I often heard the music to Shawna’s song in my head: Do you have room for the Savior? Do you seek Him anew? That was the cue for me to put aside the to-do list, give the children some blocks, and find a few quiet moments to spend time with the Savior.

I was rewarded this month as I worked harder to make a place for Jesus Christ, and was reminded that Jesus Christ always has, and always will have, room for me.

~by Heidi

It had been a bad day. I was dealing with disappointment over a hoped-for opportunity that had been withdrawn, and pain over a teacher’s unfair and damaging treatment of my young son. As I sat at my computer where so much of my life seems to happen these days, I was feeling lonely and discouraged. Just before I reached out to click the update button on my email, I bent over my keyboard and said a little prayer. “Oh, please, Heavenly Father, let some good news pop up for me!”

I clicked my mouse and emails flooded my inbox, many of them from friends I hadn’t heard from in a while. These emails brought a lot of love and comfort to my heart. One contained a link to a video and I was delighted to find that it was a clip entitled “Reflections of Christ,” featuring the work of an artist who uses live models to re-imagine scenes from well-known paintings. This particular clip featured scenes from the Book of Mormon, when Christ comes to the Americas after he was resurrected.

The first images started out a bit dark and gloomy, just like my mood, but as I watched, Christ appeared and the faces of the people curved with smiles, just my own was doing. As the people gathered, knelt, prayed, and worshiped, I could feel the pain and sorrow slip from my heart as the tears did from my face. When the images of Christ displaying his crucifixion wounds appeared, I was reminded that Christ died on the cross to bear the burden of sin for those who had wronged me as well as for my own sins. I was also reminded of this: there is no pain that is bigger than His love, bigger than His gospel, bigger than His truth. I watched eagerly as the beautiful images permeated my mind, the soaring music permeated my heart and the message permeated my soul. It was just what I needed to watch/see/hear/feel at that very moment.

As the clip came to a close, I was filled with gratitude for my Father in Heaven. What someone else might think is a mere want, He knows to be a true need. He answers prayers, even when murmured over the recumbent letters of the alphabet, the very same keys that brought this gift to me.

One of the reasons we are grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ is because the truths of the gospel help give us hope and perspective, strength to face the challenges of life. Enjoy these words of wisdom from Elder Quentin L. Cook, from his October 2008 General Conference talk entitled: “Hope Ya Know, We Had a Hard Time.”

Humanitarian efforts are constantly underway all over the world: Asia, Africa, Europe, the Pacific, South America, North/Central America .

For example, recently volunteers from the Church worked with the United States navy and several humanitarian organizations on a project called Continuing Promise 2009. Traveling with a medical ship called the USNS Comfort, workers and volunteers stop at seven different countries — Haiti, Dominican Republic, Antigua, Colombia, Panama, Nicaragua and El Salvador — on a medical training and care mission.

More information on that mission can be found here at the LDS Newsroom.

[B]ecause Jesus walked such a long, lonely path utterly alone, we do not have to do so. His solitary journey brought great company for our little version of that path—the merciful care of our Father in Heaven, the unfailing companionship of this Beloved Son, the consummate gift of the Holy Ghost, angels in heaven, family members on both sides of the veil, prophets and apostles, teachers, leaders, friends. All of these and more have been given as companions for our mortal journey because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the Restoration of His gospel. Trumpeted from the summit of Calvary is the truth that we will never be left alone nor unaided, even if sometimes we may feel that we are. Truly the Redeemer of us all said: “I will not leave you comfortless: [My Father and] I will come to you [and abide with you].” -Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, “None Were With Him” (videos in Spanish and English here)
