My Parents Wedding Anniversary

My parents just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. My siblings and I threw them a huge bash in the hopes of recreating their original wedding reception back in the summer of 1970. Minus the bell bottoms and Cher-like hair, of course.
We left nothing out. There was a wedding cake with their original topper on it. Original bridesmaids and [...]

Mormon Motherhood: Sunday Mommy vs. Rest of the week Mommy

Some may find it hard to believe, but the gal I am at church on Sunday’s is not always the gal I am the other six days of the week.  And while I strive to merge my “two personalities” into one….I fail most of the time.  But I’ve recently come to accept it.  I am [...]

Mormon Motherhood Essay: “Betrayed By Diaper Wipes”

A Mormon woman writes about the transition from a full-time career to full-time motherhood.

~By Laurel
Surrounded by cardboard boxes turned time capsules, I shifted through the newspaper clippings, pictures, and journals that made up my life so far. I lifted from one of these boxes a green leather journal that held my thoughts from my teenage [...]

Mormon Women in a Nutshell: The Relief Society Declaration

~by Michelle

Once in a while, I like to pull the Relief Society Declaration out and re-read it. It was given to us in 1999. We don’t use it in a formal way, but I think it sums up nicely what Mormon women are all about.
We are beloved spirit daughters of God, and our lives have [...]

Cornelia shares the following about a momentous day for the small group of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kasane, Botswana — their first sacrament meeting held just a couple of months ago. It was a day she had waited for for years. The dedication and faith of these modern [...]

Visiting the First Mormon Chapel in England

~by Portia
My husband and I recently traveled with a group from Hyde Park Ward on a long bus journey to the Gadfield Elm Chapel in Worchester.  This is a Mormon Church historical site of the first chapel ever owned in England.

In 1840, Elder Wilford Woodruff and others proceeded “south” as directed by inspiration to visit [...]

Poetry: “After the Funeral”

This poem was submitted by Erin and was originally published on Mormon Women in September 2008. We thought it fitting to include it during this week where we are celebrating those who have left a legacy by how they have lived their lives.

Tears were unwelcome
at Grandpa’s funeral
harsh and cold like his body
with its Light put [...]

Thoughts on my pioneer family

A couple of years ago, I was speaking with my husband’s aunt about an experience she had with a church friend of hers. This friend had come to visit with her, to see how she was doing. After some chit chat, this friend of my aunts shared that she was so happy for an upcoming [...]

Summer Fun

Every Tuesday and Thursday the ladies in our ward congregation get together for a big “water playdate.”
We meet at a local city splash pad and watch the kids enjoy the water while we sit in the shade and enjoy each others company.

It’s so fun to be around friends who “get” you.
All the ups and downs [...]
