Swiss

Due to an acute shortage of staff, Swiss was forced to cancel 100 flights in the summer. It even removes entire placements from the program as it became known this week. This applies to 10,000 passengers.

As “SonntagsZeitung” now reports, Swiss management continues to insist that around 150 unvaccinated workers – pilots and flight attendants – be laid off in the fall. The Swiss has already announced the first layoffs and more will follow, the spokesman says. The unvaccinated can now help fill staff shortages and reverse flight cancellations.

The Swiss insists on a decision

Restoring the Swiss position is out of the question, according to the newspaper. Instead, it plans to temporarily deploy around 70 Lufthansa flight attendants on its flight network. According to Lufthansa and Austria lists, only a few countries Swiss fly to to only allow vaccinated aviation personnel: Thailand, Canada, Brazil, Singapore, India, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.

But Swiss sticks to its decision not to hire her anymore. “Vaccination continues to provide the best protection against severe disease progression and continues to comply with the recommendations of the relevant specialist bodies,” explains the spokesman for SonntagsZeitung. Moreover, it is uncertain how the situation will develop in the fall. “Moreover, different treatment by crew members would result in a high degree of complexity in operational planning and would amount to unequal treatment.”

Outside of Switzerland, only a few airlines have even introduced compulsory vaccinations for their employees. And it is one of the few that lets out the unvaccinated. In its position, the industry umbrella organization Iata dismissed all compulsory vaccinations as “discriminatory”.
