On Tuesday afternoon, on Hardstrasse in Birsfelden BL, a finger was found next to a garbage can behind an apartment building with a restaurant. This was announced by Baselbieter police on Wednesday. Emergency services were indeed able to find the finger in place.
As “bz Basel” writes, the find was made by a 16-year-old. She and another person had picked up the waste when she discovered a “clean cut” finger on the floor. He had no blood. According to the newspaper, she was shocked: “Don’t expect to find a finger like that,” she says.
One photo shows a thumb lying on the ground. The separation from the hand was approximately at the level of the thumb tip joint – that is, the joint closest to the tip of the toe.

This was registered in accordance with the protection of traces and submitted to the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IRM). An investigation by the IRM has revealed that it is undoubtedly a severed human finger, namely the thumb of the right hand, as it is also called. According to a police spokesman, the finger was not freshly cut off. However, it is currently not possible to more accurately define the period between injury and discovery.
