About 90 percent of the glass used is disposed of in Switzerland, making an important contribution to protecting our environment. However, there are some important points to consider if you want to dispose of glass bottles properly, especially wine bottles.
How to get rid of wine bottles like a pro
The first thing you look at is the color of the bottle. The green glass goes to the green glass container, the brown glass goes to the amber glass container, and the white glass goes to the lead glass container. For hygiene reasons, it is recommended to rinse glass bottles before discarding them.
Synthetic wine corks end up in ordinary household waste, while used natural corks can be returned to most wine stores. Wine labels do not need to be removed from the bottle as the small amount of paper used in the glass recycling process does not play a significant role.
But what absolutely needs to be removed is a capsule or closure. Capsules or closures that were once made of lead or tin are now mostly made of aluminum and are housed in a metal container.
This also does not fit in the glass container
Do not throw mirrored or window glass, porcelain, ceramics and earthenware, metal lids or PET bottles into the glass container.
Vases and glasses have an increased lead content. For health reasons, it is strictly limited by law in the case of glass packaging, therefore vases and glasses should not be thrown into a glass container.
The final point when disposing of glass bottles is that the blue, red or unidentifiable glass bottles belong to the green glass container. Green glass is the most common, therefore foreign colors are not so important in reprocessing.
