The cockpit of the fully-occupied Boeing 737-800 by Turkish Airline Corendon experienced a loss of cabin pressure on Sunday’s flight from Nuremberg to Palma de Mallorca. The cockpit crew noticed a drop in pressure and lowered flight altitude, a Corendon spokesman at a German news agency said on Monday. The machine flew to the next airport in Basel.
A spokesman said that due to the faster descent compared to normal surgery, several of the 188 passengers had complained of earache. As a precaution, Basel Airport has already provided first aid medical teams. According to the airport, 37 passengers had problems with tinnitus or eardrums.
With a replacement machine for Majorca
However, most passengers flew to Majorca in the evening on a replacement plane provided by Corendon. On the other hand, some withdrew from the offer, a spokesman said, without giving an exact number.
While the drop in pressure, the descent and fall of the oxygen masks from the cabin paneling caused a moment of shock for many passengers, it was a process that the crew were able to control through routine procedures. The exact cause of the pressure drop was initially unknown.
