It was the second of three goals the Portuguese forward scored in the game, leading United to a 3-2 victory over Tottenham and ending the day with 807 career goals. The previous FIFA goal record was kept by Josef Bican, with 805 goals.

Saturday is Ronaldo’s second hat-trick in the English Premier League and his 59th career.

Ronaldo, 37, holds the all-time record for most Champions League goals (140) and most international goals in men’s football (115).

The five-time Golden Ball winner began his club career with Portugal’s Sporting CP before joining Manchester United in 2003.

After six seasons at United, he moved to Spanish La Liga giant Real Madrid, where he scored 450 goals in 438 games in his nine years with the club.

He returned to the Red Devils in August, after two seasons with Italian Juventus.

After Saturday’s victory, United scored three points and advanced to the top four of the league table. The four best teams in the English Premier League are placed in the Champions League.
