Due to a system failure at Skyguide, all Swiss airspace is closed until further notice, air traffic control writes in a press release. We are working on a solution and regret the disruption. It is unclear how long the disruption will last.

In Zurich, four Swiss flights had to be redirected to Basel and Milan. As it is not possible to depart at the moment, many passengers are stuck at Zurich airport. At 7.30am the first flights had to be canceled. So far, Zurich have suffered from flights to Vienna, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Munich and Frankfurt.

“Like grounding”

The mood among passengers waiting at Zurich Airport remains calm, as reported by a local reader. But some people worry about catching their connecting flights. “It’s like grounding,” says one reader. Other passengers are already giving up and wanting their checked baggage back.

This also applies to Geneva Airport. There, a flight from New York to Paris had to be redirected. Flights from Brussels, Luxembourg, Majorca, Amsterdam and Paris had to be canceled.
