A 37-year-old motorcyclist died in a road accident on Wednesday night. An oncoming fire engine from the Horgen base fire department was grazing.
A 37-year-old motorcyclist died in a car accident involving vehicles from the Horgen ZH fire station on Wednesday evening. This was announced by the Zurich cantonal police in the early morning of Thursday.
The accident happened around 21:30. The motorcyclist was on the Zugerstrasse in the direction of Hirzel. In a sharp right-hand corner, he ran his motorcycle into an oncoming lane for reasons that are not yet known.
There, an oncoming fire engine from the Horgen base fire department was grazing. As a result of the collision, the man fell with the motorcycle and drove head-on into the next engineer’s vehicle from the same fire station.
Despite immediate rescue actions, the motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident. The firefighters were not injured. The cantonal police together with the Limmattal / Albis prosecutor’s office are investigating the cause of the accident.
Due to the accident, Zugerstrasse between Hanegg and Hirzel had to be closed to traffic on both sides for several hours. The fire department organized a detour.
