Microsoft’s free 3D paint tool has great features for 3D doodles
Microsoft’s Paint 3D program provides a free, easy-to-use tool for creating three-dimensional drawings and artwork. Use the hard and soft doodle tools to refine your images.
Paint 3D works for Windows 10. It was introduced in Windows 10 Creators Update and is installed by default for this and newer versions.
Set your canvas
Set up the canvas you will be drawing on. Choose toilet to start from the top of the program.
Turn on a transparent canvas with the Transparent Canvas option so the background blends in with the colors around it. This switch is optional but avoids a white background end product.
Resize the Paint 3D canvas. By default, the canvas is measured in percent and set to 100% x 100%. Change or select these values to your liking percentage to change the values pixel as shown above.
The small lock icon below the values can activate an option that locks the aspect ratio. Once locked, the two values are always the same.
Use a 3D scribble tool
The 3D Doodle Tools are located in the 3D shapes accessible from the top of the Paint 3D program.
Two of the 3D Doodle tools include a sharp edge tool and a feather edge tool. Pointed edge scribbling adds depth to a flat object, meaning you can use it to literally “pull” 3D space out of 2D space. Soft-edge scribbling helps create 3D objects by inflating 2D objects, which can be useful when drawing objects like clouds.
A third tool 3D tubewas introduced in Paint 3D in a later update.
Choose Sharp-edged 3D scribble Tool. Choose a color for the 3D object.
Start by drawing a simple circle. As you draw, your starting point will light up with a small blue circle. Click and drag to get a free hand, or click once, then move to another spot and click again to form a straight line. Combine the two techniques into one as you draw the model. However you do it, always return to the starting point – the blue circle – to finish the drawing.
When the object is complete, it remains only slightly 3D until you start using the tools that automatically appear around the object when you click on it. Each tool moves the object in a different way. One of them pushes him back and forth in front of the scenery. The others turn or turn the model in the desired direction. The eight small boxes surrounding the object are also useful. Hold and drag one of them to see how it affects the model. The four corners resize the object, making it bigger or smaller depending on whether you drag the box in or out. The top and bottom squares affect the size in that direction, allowing you to smooth the object. The left and right squares can make a small object much longer or shorter, which is useful for real 3D effects. If you click and drag the object itself without using these buttons, you can move it around the canvas in a classic 2D way.
Sharp-edged 3D Scribble is great for objects that need lengthening, but not so good for rounded effects. This is where the Soft Edge tool comes into play.
Local and select the Gribouillis 3D Soft Edge of the 3D scribble area 3D shapes > Choose Menu. Choose a color for the template.
Just like the 3D sharp edge scribble, you must start and end the drawing in the same place.
With the object selected, use the controls in the selection box to rotate the model about all possible axes, including moving back and forth toward and away from the 2D canvas and other 3D models.
When creating objects with the 3D Soft Edge Scribble, rotate it in a specific direction to tell the manipulation buttons how you want to change the model.
Download templates
Use these 3D drawing tools to create models from scratch and convert 2D images into 3D models. However, if you’d rather not create your own 3D designs in Paint 3D, download models made by other users from the Remix 3D website.
