If the subject line of an email doesn’t contain enough description to help you identify the subject of an email, or if the subject field is blank, you can use Microsoft Outlook to edit the subject line and body of emails you receive to have.
The instructions in this article apply to Outlook for Microsoft 365, Outlook 2019, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2013, and Outlook 2010.
Change the subject of the received email in Outlook
You can change the subject of any message you receive in Outlook.
Look for emails with an empty subject and add a subject to make them easier to find.
Start Outlook.
Double-click the message you want to edit to open it in a separate window.
You cannot edit the subject of a message in the reading pane.
Place the cursor in the subject line and press ctrl–A on your keyboard to select the whole topic.
Enter the object you want to use.
Choose To protect in the top left corner of the message window.
Close the message window.
The new topic appears in the reading pane. The message indicates the original topic of conversation.
Change the text of the received email in Outlook
The action menu allows you to make changes to the body of an email message you have received.
Start Outlook.
Double-click the message you want to edit to open it in a separate window.
You cannot edit the subject of a message in the reading pane.
Choose Actions in the Move group.
Choose Edit Post.
Make the desired changes to the message content. For example, you can add keywords or names that you can search for later.
Choose To protect in the top left corner of the message window.
Close the message window.
