A tourist in Austria apparently fell while taking a selfie and had a fatal accident. As reported, the Tyrolean police owed the discovery of the body almost eight months after the accident of the 57-year-old Austrian’s brother.
Since the wanderer has disappeared without a trace since October 18 after the missing persons were reported, his brother went looking for himself in the Lechtal Alps, police reported. According to information, on Saturday, on a mound in the Mittlerer Kreuzjoch area, he discovered his brother’s camera. “After evaluating the camera image, the victim was able to take a photo with a self-timer and fall about 100 meters above steep rocky terrain,” police said.
Alerted security forces found the body and were able to save it using a rope and a helicopter. The competent prosecutor ordered an investigation.
Fatal accidents while taking selfies are common – they outweigh the death toll from shark attacks. In January, a tourist (21 years old) died in the US state of Arizona. Also in Belgium, the 33-year-old died when she posed for her Insta channel on a cliff and slipped. In May, a couple from southern Spain were extremely lucky when they fell 30 meters off a cliff while taking a photo, but only suffered broken bones.
