And for you to learn something today, random entry of the day on the wiki: the IKEA effect
In behavioral economics, the IKEA effect is defined as the increase in appreciation of hand-designed, or at least self-made, items compared to ready-made mass products. The name in honor of the furniture manufacturer IKEA and its products for customer assembly was coined in 2009 by economist Michael Norton.
Quantitatively, the increase in appreciation by self-assembly of a mass-produced item almost reaches the appreciation of a one-off item made individually by a craftsman.
The equipment effect is comparable, that people tend to value the good more if they have it.
