“Perhaps Putin will no longer run for the presidential election in 2024,” says Nau.ch, Russia expert Ulrich Schmid.

According to an expert from the University of St. Gallen, these potential new presidents “are forming now.”

“Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is a possible candidate,” says Schmid. He could replace the president who ran Russia since 2000, with a break for only one term (2008-2012).

Mishustin, 56, was the head of the Russian tax office for ten years. From 2020, he is the prime minister of the Russian Federation, replacing Dmitry Medvedev. Vladimir Putin personally offered him for the position and allowed him to establish his own cabinet.
