Monika Hauser was a pioneer. When the doctor founded her organization Medica Mondiale for war-torn women and girls in 1993, the topic of sexual violence was still taboo, and no one wanted to hear about systematic sexual violence being used as a weapon of war. Medica Mondiale is now active in 14 countries and supports around 10,000 survivors each year. Her days are now even more rigorously planned than usual as Medica Mondiale is currently building a network in Ukraine. Nevertheless, he takes the time to make a detailed phone call. Because it is important for her to see how devastating and destructive war traumatizations – including men – are for entire societies.
